The Witcher picks up filming again after the second Covid hiatus

Following an eventful month of location shooting in Northern England, Netflix’s The Witcher was forced to halt production of its second season, when four affiliated people tested positive for Covid-19. This marked the second interruption due to the pandemic, after a months-long break in the first half of 2020. Luckily, this time it’s a much shorter one as the cast and crew of The Witcher are already back at work.

Filming has resumed yesterday night at Arborfield Studios in Reading, where the team has been building a full witcher town from scratch. We haven’t heard if any of the main cast were present for the nightshoot, but we know filming concentrated on the newly erected town.

It’s a relief to hear that things are picking up again and most importantly that the team feels safe enough to resume filming. When last we reported, Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra were seen filming near Frensham Little Pond. Locals had also spotted several wagons and horses in the area, which may not have been used yet. Given the sudden halt, we expect The Witcher to return to Frensham Little Pond sometime soon.

The Witcher is still a long way from being done filming. As we reported earlier, the plan was to wrap principal photography by February 2021 for a possible Summer release. We can’t know what the situation will be in one or two months, but for now it’s probably safe to say the production hasn’t been pushed back by much. Henry Cavill Injury Doesn't Affect Production

By now you've likely heard that Henry Cavill has injured himself during a shoot for The WItcher. United Kingdom media giant The Sun , reported the news first on Cavill's injury. A source close to the show had this to say regarding the injury, "He just suddenly pulled up and was clearly in a lot of pain. It wasn’t clear if an object had hit his leg or it was some sort of hamstring or muscle injury." This took place while Henry was suspended 20 feet in the air for a major scene. While the title of The Sun's article alludes to the production schedule going into chaos, Deadline.com has now also shared the news but notes that any impact to production is not heavily felt due to the coming holiday shut down. The Witcher Season 3 to enter production in early 2022

Everyone is eagerly waiting for The Witcher Season 2 on December 17, but the work on the next season doesn’t stay still and the scripts are being written as we speak. If you recall, Season 3 of The Witcher will have a number of new writers who started their work this July. We were wondering when filming for the next season would begin and now we have a window. Thanks to the newest listing on Production Weekly, we now know that Season 3 of The Witcher is planned to enter production in the first quarter of 2022 . But bear in mind that production schedules are never solid and are always subject to change, especially in a post-covid world.
