Andrzej Sapkowski Prefers The Witcher’s Netflix Adaptation and Henry Cavill’s Voice; Teases Setting of His New Book

The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski is making appearances and interviews again and thankfully we’ll be seeing that more frequently in the next two years as Sapkowski is writing his new Witcher book for a Winter 2024/2025 release. In one of these interviews, he spoke about adaptations and what he imagined Geralt’s voice would be like.

During the Vienna Comic Con event, Andrzej Sapkowski was interviewed by Beyond Pixels in German and one of the questions was about the upcoming Witcher book that will be out next Winter. Asked whether this book will lead to more entries in the saga, he said: “No, that’s not my plan now. This new book is going to be a standalone but…maybe, who can say.

Further, he said: “The book is directly about Geralt, but I won’t say more. […] It is outside the pentalogy.

This confirms the theories about the timeline in which this book will be set. Just like Season of Storms, it seems to be outside the pentalogy that started with Blood of Elves and set somewhere between the short stories.

In the same interview, Sapkowski was asked about the many interpretations and adaptations of The Witcher, from series, comics, video games and more. Asked if he’d recommend any of them, Sapkowski said: “I don’t know. Personally, I really like the Netflix series, but yes, I’m not a specialist. This is only my opinion.

Earlier this year during Taipei International Book Exhibition, Sapkowski said about the Netflix adaptation: “I’ve seen, better, I’ve seen worse“, possibly referring to better and worse adaptations of other authors.

In another part of the Vienna interview, Sapkowski had a comment regarding Geralt’s voice. He prefers Henry Cavill’s voice over others: “I repeat, there are only letters [in my books]. But then I also saw the series from Netflix and I would say the voice of Cavill, that’s right for me. Also my own idea of Geralt’s voice. That would be Cavill.

Sapkowski made other comments regarding Cavill’s Geralt in the past. Namely for People magazine: “I was more than happy with Henry Cavill’s appearance as The WitcherHe’s a real professional. Just as Viggo Mortensen gave his face to Aragorn [in The Lord of the Rings], so Henry gave his to Geralt — and it shall be forever so.”

In any case, we’re eagerly awaiting Sapkowski’s new book next Winter. Here’s a list of all major upcoming Witcher projects:
