Writer Declan de Barra reveals his Season 2 episode and other Witcher credits

Declan de Barra’s contribution to the first season of Netflix’s The Witcher was both inside the writing room and outside of it. In addition to writing the fourth episode titled “Of Banquets, Bastards and Burials”, Declan provided his vocals to several music tracks used in the season composed by Sonya Belousova and Giona Ostinelli. While we don’t know if he’ll return as a vocalist in the new season, he will certainly return as a writer.

“I wrote the first episode and we shot a good chunk of it before COVID shut us down”, he said in an interview with We Are Irish. (Read the full interview for more insight into Declan’s work on Season 1)

To this we can add something we learned ourselves: the second episode of Season 2 was written by Beau DeMayo who wrote Episode 3 which adapts the short story “The Witcher” and also The Nightmare of the Wolf anime about young Vesemir which is currently in development.

It was revealed back in November that almost all of the writers of Season 1 would return except for Jenny Klein, who previously wrote Episode 2 of the first season and the lyrics to the hit “Toss A Coin to Your Witcher”.

The newcomers of Season 2 are Matthew D’Ambrosio, previously the script supervisor, and Clare Higgins, who was a writers’ assistant back in Season 1. While we don’t know which episode Matthew has penned, Clare co-wrote an episode with showrunner Lauren Hissrich according to her LinkedIn page. We ourselves have learned it’s Episode 3 of Season 2.

In summary, these are the Season 2 writing credits so far:

  • Episode 1: Declan de Barra
  • Episode 2: Beau DeMayo
  • Episode 3: Lauren Hissrich & Clare Higgins

The other five episodes were written by Sneha Koorse, Matthew D’Ambrosio, Michael Ostrowski, Haily Hall and most likely another one by Lauren Hissrich. We can’t wait to learn more on this!
