The Witcher Actor Joins ‘The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim’ Animated Film

Although Amazon’s first big venture into Tolkien’s Middle-Earth named Rings of Power is coming soon, another, equally ambitious project is being developed by Warner Bros. and it will be The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, which is set 183 years before the main trilogy.

What’s interesting is that this animated feature will be in the same continuity as Peter Jackson’s films, and will even feature Miranda Otto‘s Eowyn as the narrator.

Beside Otto a number of other cast members have been announced, but we’ll focus on one, as the actor himself had the pleasure of revealing his role.

Shaun Dooley will voice Freca

Among the announced cast was Shaun Dooley, who will be very familiar to our readers as none other than King Foltest from The Witcher.

In the War of Rohirrim, Dooley will voice Freca, a lord of Rohan under King Helm Hammerhand (Brian Cox) and the father of the film’s main antagonist, Wulf (Luke Pasqualino).

As you can see in the tweet above, it sounds like Dooley has already completed his work on the film as he wrote in past tense. That said, it’s still a long way until April 2024.

The official synopsis for the animated feature reads: A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg – a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep. Finding herself in an increasingly desperate situation, Hera, the daughter of Helm, must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their total destruction.

Here’s the rest of the voice cast for The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim: Gaia Wise (Silent Witness), Lorraine Ashbourne (Bridgerton), Yazdan Qafouri (I Came By), Benjamin Wainwright (World on Fire), Laurence Ubong Williams (Gateway), Michael Wildman (Hobbs & Shaw), Jude Akuwudike (Beasts of No Nation), Bilal Hasna (Sparks) and Janine Duvitski (Benidorm).

The War of the Rohirrim, directed by Kenji Kamiyama, is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on April 12, 2024.
